Basic Insulation Terms for Perlite Plaster and Screed Applications
This glossary, prepared to help you better understand the technical terms used in insulation applications, presents the most important concepts related to thermal, acoustic, and moisture insulation in a simple and understandable way.
Relative Humidity (Bağıl Nem) The ratio of the amount of water vapor in the air to the maximum moisture capacity at the same temperature. It directly affects insulation performance.
Vapor Pressure (Buhar Basıncı) The pressure exerted by water vapor present in moist air. It is one of the primary causes of moisture movement within structural elements.
Vapor Barrier (Buhar Kesici) Dense material layers that limit the progression of water vapor within structural elements. It ensures that moisture is stopped at the correct point.
Dew Point (Çiy Noktası) The temperature at which water vapor in the air begins to condense. When the temperature falls below this value, water forms on the surface.
Diffusion Resistance (Difüzyon Direnci) The resistance shown by materials against the passage of water vapor. It determines the performance of insulation materials.
Thermal Conductivity Coefficient (k-Value / Isı İletim Katsayısı) Indicates the rate at which a material conducts heat. A lower value means better insulation.
Thermal Transmittance (U-Value / Isıl Geçirgenlik) Represents the total amount of heat passing through a structural element. It is one of the most important indicators of insulation quality.
Thermal Resistance (Isı İletim Direnci) The resistance shown by a material against heat transfer. A higher value provides better insulation.
