How to Prepare Perlite Plaster Mortar? (Application Guide)

Proper preparation of the mortar in perlite plaster applications is of great importance for both insulation performance and application quality. Therefore, mixing ratios and application steps must be followed carefully.

How is Perlite Plaster Mortar Prepared?

Perlite plaster mortar is obtained by mixing specific ratios of perlite, cement, and additives with water.

Mixing Ratios

For a standard perlite plaster mortar:

  • 3 bags of perlite
  • 1 bag of cement
  • 4.5 – 5 cans (containers) of water
  • 1 can (container) of coarse sand (plaster additive)

All materials should be mixed until a homogeneous consistency is achieved.

What Should the Mortar Consistency Be?

The prepared mortar should:

  • Be non-fluid (not runny)
  • Be easily applicable with a trowel
  • Have a consistency that can adhere to the surface

Mixes that are too watery or too dry reduce application performance.

Surface Preparation Before Application

Before the plaster application, the surface must be made suitable:

  • It must be free from dust, dirt, and oil
  • Loose particles must be cleaned
  • The surface should be sound and slightly damp

This preparation ensures that the plaster adheres better to the surface.

How is Perlite Plaster Applied?

The prepared mortar is applied to the surface in layers:
