How to Apply Perlite Plaster?

Step-by-Step Application Guide

Perlite plaster is a lightweight type of plaster that provides thermal and sound insulation. When applied correctly, it both ensures energy savings and creates a long-lasting surface.

So, how is perlite plaster applied? Here is the step-by-step guide:


1. Surface Preparation

The surface must be prepared before application.

  • The surface must be clean (free of dust, oil, and dirt)
  • Loose particles must be removed
  • Cracks and holes should be repaired
  • The surface should be lightly moistened

The use of a primer is recommended for surfaces such as exposed concrete.


2. Mortar Preparation

Perlite plaster is prepared by mixing it with water.

Average mixture:

  • 1 bag of plaster

  • 9 – 12 liters of water

  • Mix with a low-speed mixer

  • Mix for 5 minutes – Let it rest for 2-3 minutes – Mix again

  • A homogeneous consistency must be achieved.


3. Application

The prepared mortar is applied to the surface.

Application methods:

  • Machine spraying

  • Manual application with a trowel

  • It is spread evenly on the surface

  • It is leveled with a gauge (screed bar)


4. Application Thickness

  • In a single coat: 10 – 30 mm
  • A second coat can be applied if necessary
