Perlite Roof Screed
What Is Roof Perlite Screed?
Roof perlite screed is a lightweight insulation screed applied to roof slabs (such as flat roofs, terraces, and roof decks). It is a cement‑based screed containing expanded perlite, which provides both thermal and acoustic insulation while significantly reducing the dead load on the structure.
Key Properties
- Lightweight: Much lighter than conventional concrete screed, it reduces the building’s dead load and helps improve seismic performance.
- Thermal insulation: The porous perlite structure reduces heat loss through the roof or slab, helping to keep spaces cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
- Sound insulation: It absorbs sound waves coming from the roof or upper floors, reducing noise transmission between levels.
- Fire resistance: Being inorganic and non‑combustible, it has high fire resistance and acts as a fire barrier.
- Easy application: It can be poured by hand or machine and is suitable for flat roofs, terraces, mezzanine floors, and similar surfaces.
Usage Areas
- Used as a lightweight insulation layer on flat roofs, terraces, rooftop slabs, and mezzanine floors.
- Commonly applied in apartment roofs, office buildings, schools, and industrial buildings to improve both thermal and acoustic comfort.
- On waterproof areas (terraces, balconies), an additional waterproofing membrane or waterproof plaster is applied over the perlite screed to prevent water penetration and leaks.
